Steffen is one of our performance engineers.
He holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Stuttgart in the field of scientific and high-performance computing. For that, he made large-scale particle simulations more efficient by optimally distributing the workload in-between all compute nodes.
With large-scale simulations that run on thousands of computers on the one hand, he is also fond of low-level details on the other hand. Whether it is inspecting and understanding binary code, helping the compiler to emit better assembly, or using intrinsics that map directly to hardware instructions, Steffen is up for it. He likes to look under the hood and examine how things work. Therefore, he considers debuggers and performance measurement tools to be some of the most exciting and valuable tools because they allow to examine a computer program in-flight.
